Summer is quickly approaching.  There are still a few things to take note of before the 2014-2015 school year ends...

Tomorrow - Friday:

Friday, June 5th is Breakfast & Books @ 8:30am.  Just a reminder that this is our last Breakfast & Books event of the school year.  It begins at 8:30am.  Breakfast & Books is a chance for parents to come enjoy a few minutes with their children reading while having a bite to eat.  Breakfast is low-key and usually there is an assortment of donuts, fruit, and instant oatmeal.  This takes place in the multipurpose room (lunch-room).  We usually borrow an assortment of books from our school's library for families to use during this event or they can bring their own from home.  It's short & sweet, and nice to see the kids interacting with their families.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Next Week's Assemblies:

Make sure to attend the Band Concert  which is scheduled for the evening of Monday, June 8th.  There is also an earlier performance during the school day beginning at 2:15 pm for students to enjoy.

Spirit Day - make sure to wear your school colors on Thursday, June 11th.  There is also an assembly that afternoon.  The All Virtues Assembly will begin @ 2:35pm on Thursday, June 11th.

The last POPCORN DAY before summer break:

Our last POPCORN DAY this school year is Friday, June 12th.  Since they've been going on all year, you are probably familiar with it, but just in case you haven't heard...

Popcorn Day is when the kids can buy a bag(s) of popcorn for $0.25 during their lunch recess.  There is a limit of TWO bags of popcorn per student.  It is popped on site (at the school) by our PTO volunteers.  Sometimes we have other items available for sale at this time, too.  Usually ranging from $0.25 to $1.00 depending on what it is.  Usually there are limits on the number available per student for those items, too.  Flyers with more details are sent home beforehand.

Popping starts early - Jeff gets there before school starts.  If anyone is available to help bag/box popcorn for a while or to help sell it during the lunchtime recesses, please let us know ASAP.  It's appreciated.

A big "thank you" goes to Jeff Scheeler for being our Popcorn Day Chairperson again for next year!  Without a PTO board, chairpeople, and volunteers, events like this wouldn't be possible.  If you are interested in learning about future board/chair positions or volunteer opportunities, please feel free to contact us.  Thanks!

For 6th Graders & their families:

KSD “Moving Up” Day and 6th Grade Celebration is Monday, June 15th.
The school year is coming to an end quickly.  Our 6th graders are almost out of elementary school!  Towards the end of each school year, we like to provide the 6th graders with a special celebration just for them.  It's time for them to have some fun knowing that they have made it through their elementary days and will be on their way to middle school...

This year, the 6th graders will have their "Moving Up Day" event, which will be followed by this special afternoon party at Millennium.  This 6th grade celebration is on Monday, June 15th.  So, when they finish up with their morning/lunch event, they will get to have some afternoon fun, too.  However, in order for the party to happen, we need volunteers.  The plan is that there will be a bouncy obstacle course for them, sodas, and a treat.  We need a few adult volunteers to supervise the bouncy obstacle course.  Only so many kids can run/bounce through at a time, they will need to remove their shoes, glasses, jewelry, and any other accessories that could pop the bouncy, etc.  More detailed directions and set-up to prepare for this event will begin at 12:30 pm and we should clean-up by 3:30 pm - in time for school dismissal.  Please let me (Candie Meyer) know ASAP if you can help or have any questions.  Thanks!

Wrapping up the 2014-15 school year...

Field Day is on Wednesday, June 17th!  Fun times, water bottles, and a snack for the students!

Thursday, June 18th is the LAST DAY of this school year!  Good luck to all the 6th graders moving on to middles school.  We hope to see the rest of you back again in the fall.  Have a wonderful summer break!!!

PTO General Meeting

There's a PTO General Meeting on Wednesday, January 7th at 6:30pm in the multi-purpose room.  We are planning on having several door prizes, as well as, refreshments.  We really hope you will join us and learn about PTO and all the volunteer opportunities available now and for next year.  See you there!

Popcorn Day

Friday, January 16th is our next POPCORN DAY!  Sales are during students' lunch recesses.  Popcorn is $0.25 per bag with a limit of 2 bags.  We also plan to sell mini Slim Jims (for $0.25 each) and Red Vines licorice (2 pieces for $0.25).  Please let us know if you are available to help with this event.  Thanks!

Fundraising Really Helps

There was a "Winter Dance" on Thursday, December 18th .  To help raise money there was a small entry fee; beverages, bake sale and snack food items were sold during the dance; and there was a photo "booth," too.  We made just over $1000 in profits, which will benefit the 6th grade outdoor education program.  We would like to thank Kevin Chamberlain for being our wonderful DJ, Dean May for all his photography services, Mr. Montoya for being our Santa, all the parent volunteers, teachers & staff that chaperoned, everyone that contributed donations & worked concession tables, several high school/middle school volunteers, the 6th graders that helped make decorations, and anyone we may have forgotten to mention...you all helped make it a success!

6th Grade Celebration Planning Committee Needed

Dear 6th Grade Families:

We will need volunteers for next year's 6th grade celebration in June 2015.  This is something for you to think about helping out with.  If you are interested in being a chairperson or co-chairperson for this please let us know.  If you would like to just volunteer your time or send donations for this activity that would be great, too.  We need people to help serve food & beverage items, as well as, to help with games/activities.  We will also need volunteers to supervise the bouncy house we are hoping to provide for this event.

Time is flying by.  I can hardly believe that it is already November.  Here are the things coming up this month and as we head into December.
  • Our online book fair will be open until November 4th.
  • Northwest Fundraising packets will be sent home...this fundraiser begins Tuesday, November 4th.  Packets/payments are due back Tuesday, November 18th.  Great gift ideas and wrapping paper products.  This is a wonderful way to support your PTO & school while making some holiday purchases.  For more info, please visit: http://nwfundraising.com/products/ Thanks!
  • Monday, November 10th and Tuesday, November 11th there is NO SCHOOL.
  • Tentatively, Friday, November 14th - the Butter Braid/Pastry Puffin orders arrive.  Please plan on picking up larger orders.  We will only send them home with students if they are small (probably just 1 or 2 items)...especially for younger students that can't carry them.  Don't forget these are frozen goods & we don't have space to store them.  You need to pick them up promptly and get them in your freezer ASAP.  Thank you.
  • Picture Re-Take Day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 18th.  Don't forget to bring packets back or order forms/payments.  Please make checks payable to O'Connor Photography.  Thanks!
  • Friday, November 21st is POPCORN DAY!  Please let us know if you are available to help out.  Popcorn is sold during student lunches for $0.25 per bag.  Limit 2 bags per student.
  • Thanksgiving Break - NO SCHOOL - on Thursday & Friday, November 27th & 28th.
  • Wednesday, December 3rd is a LATE ARRIVAL DAY.  School begins 2 hours late.
  • Breakfast and Books is scheduled on Friday, December 5th!   This is a chance for parents to come enjoy a few minutes with their children reading while having a bite to eat.

Update on Popcorn Day - this Friday

Friday

Popcorn Day is this Friday, May 9th!  There was some talk about selling some caramel corn, as well as regular popcorn (as I mentioned in my previous post).  UPDATE: that is NOT going to happen.  We will be selling only the regular butter flavored popcorn...not caramel flavored.  However  There will still be licorice and mini slim jims available for purchase, too.  Plus, we'll be selling the remaining Smencils if we have enough volunteers.  If you would like to help out on Friday, please let us know ASAP.  Thank you!

The first week of May...

This week is filling up - there's lots going on!

First off, this week - May 5th through the 9th is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week!  We would like to say thank you to everyone that works at Millennium.  We really appreciate all you do.  Hopefully, this week the Millennium staff will enjoy what we have planned for them.

The staff lounge got decorated last Friday after school.  Then, finishing touches were added early this morning.  We wanted to surprise all the staff.  So, their morning...their special week got a kick-start with some mini breakfast items and a coffee bar.  The rest of the week our PTO plans to bring some stuff in for the staff's lunches.  WooHoo!  We are off to a good start and hope the rest of the week goes well, too.

Wednesday

There is a KSD Late Start Day on Wednesday, May 7th.  Just a reminder that school begins TWO hours late that day.  Have a wonderful morning!

Then there is also a PTO Meeting this Wednesday, May 7th at 6:30 pm in the school library.  There are volunteer opportunities and important dates to discuss.  Also, we are looking for people to fill roles in quite a few of next year's chair positions.  We REALLY would like to fill these spots this spring to help transition into the next school year.  So, if you are interested in becoming a chairperson or board member, please join us at the meeting or let us know & we will get you the details.

Thursday

The Butter Braids/Pastry Puffin Fundraiser delivery date is scheduled for May 8th.  Items should be arriving in the afternoon.  So, if you have an order with more than an item or two that we can send home with your child, you should plan to pick up your order when school gets out.  Thank you!

Also, Thursday, May 8, 6:00pm – 7:30pm is TIPS Night - bring a cultural dish to share at the annual Multi-Cultural Potluck.  This is a very fun and tasty evening activity.  It's a great way to share about your family's culture and learn more about others.

Friday

Popcorn Day is Friday, May 9th!  Currently, there are plans to sell some caramel corn, as well as regular popcorn.  There will be licorice and mini slim jims available for purchase, too.  Plus, we'll be selling the remaining Smencils if we have enough volunteers, too.

There's a Virtue Assembly for Honesty & Environmental Stewardship on Friday, May 9th at 2:35 pm.
