The MLPTO blog was created to help keep you informed of events, activities, and volunteer opportunities.  In case you aren't familiar with blogs/RSS feeds, I thought I would give you a little heads-up.  Instead of checking the website frequently for blog updates, you can simply enter your email address & click "subscribe" (in the bar on the right) to get our blog updates emailed to you OR if you already have a list of RSS feeds, just add us!

Speaking of updates...
I am super excited to tell you all that our new domain www.mlpto.org is now directed here!  YAY!  So, please make a note of our updated web address.  Thanks!

Just a reminder that the Virtue Assembly for RESPONSIBILITY is tomorrow afternoon.  The fourth graders will be "presenting" the assembly at 2:35pm if you are interested in attending.  If you do, don't forget all visitors need to sign in at the school's main office.  Great job to all the students that follow Millennium's virtues and congrats to those students being awarded for it!

It's already the last week of January!

First off, there was no school today because it's a "teacher's workshop" day.  Hopefully, you are all enjoying the 3-day weekend (or at least the kids are).

Second, there is a Virtue Assembly on Thursday, January 31st for RESPONSIBILITY.  It is scheduled to begin at 2:35pm if you are interested in watching the students being awarded.

Third, "Smencil-Gram" orders can be submitted beginning tomorrow.  Millennium staff, parents and family members can send "SMENCIL-GRAMS" (on Valentine’s Day, 2/14/13), to students.  Students can send them to friends and teachers at Millennium!  A smencil gram is a packaged gourmet scented smalentine smencil with a to/from card attached.  Each smencil-gram will cost $2.  You must submit a cash payment (we will not accept checks) with the order form no later than February 8th.  Order forms have been sent home, but please let your child’s teacher know if you need one.  There is an order limit of six.  We have a sizable number of Smencils, but they will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so get your orders in early.  We may sell out.  The last day to submit an order is Friday, Feb 8th if we have not sold out before then.

We are still looking for a few volunteers to help finish making the "smencil-gram" card/tags.  We've got them started & plan to work on them again soon.  Quite possibly next weekend.  If you are interested, please fill out the form below and we will get back to you.  Thanks!

Volunteers...Art Docents still needed.

The 2013 Kent Student Art Walk is coming up this March.  We hope to have art from some of Millennium's students showcased there.  If your child's class doesn't have an art docent, please consider volunteering.  We are already about half-way through the school year and this is usually only a one day/per month commitment.

Here's a little example: Today, was my scheduled art docent day for my daughter's class.  I have about an hour for a quick lesson with an art project or craft activity.  The kids all really seem to love being able to use their creativity.  Personally, I like doing something themed around a holiday, event, or season of year that is coming up.  So, today I talked about "still life" art and titled my lesson "Still Love" since it was all Valentine-type stuff that I put on display.  There really are no rules, though - it's art!  All it takes is a little time and some enthusiasm.  There are even designated supplies that the art docents can use.  Yep, I love arts and crafts.   I even attempted to "draw along" the students today as you can see from my pic.  Try not to laugh at my sketch...ok, you can laugh, but please don't do it to my face.  The kids told me it looked good.It feels great to see the students excited each time I come to their classroom.  Get inspired...maybe inspire someone else!  Just think about all the fun you can have with it.  After all, when was the last time you sat down to sketch, draw, or paint - just for fun?!?
