Hopefully, you were all able to enjoy the mid-winter/President's Day break from school. It is now Monday, February 25th and school is back in session. I just wanted to remind everyone of a few things:
Thanks to everyone that volunteered at our Spring Book Fair. We really appreciate all the help we received. We are happy to announce we met our sales goal thanks to everyone that supported our efforts & bought books from us. Hopefully, our children are enjoying some new books, too! Even though we have ended our physical book fair, our school's online book-fair will run through February 28th at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/millenniumelementary. So, if you didn't have a chance to visit us in person, you can still do so...online. Plus, these online sales still help our school, too!
We hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day! Our Valentine "Smencil-Gram" fundraiser has ended and all the smencil-grams were delivered to students classrooms on Valentine's Day.
Hopefully, everyone made it to their Parent-Teacher Conferences this past week.
Now that another busy week has come to an end, I wanted to send a reminder that next week...the week of February 18th - 22nd is Presidents' Break - There is No School. Make sure to check our calendar for all the upcoming activities and events.
I know it seems like we have a long time until the end of school – but the reality is that it really isn’t that far away! So, it’s time for us to start thinking about leadership for the PTO during the 2013-14 school year.
The PTO nominating committee has historically presented a slate of officers and committee chairs in April, and then a vote is taken on those nominees in May. By having our officers elected prior to the end of the school year, it allows (in theory!) for a smooth and seamless transition.
I’m e-mailing you today to see if you would be interested in participating in the nominating committee, or if you would be willing to talk with other Millennium community members to see if they would be willing to participate. Ideally we would like about 5 people on the committee, but could do it with a minimum of 3. I’ll meet with the group at the first meeting to help get things started, but then will need to bow out as the President cannot be a member of the committee. All the work will be completed by April, and the group can choose how they manage the process, whether in-person meetings are needed or if it can be managed via phone and/or e-mail.
Please feel free to pass this e-mail along to others...
"Smencil-Gram" orders are still being accepted. Just in case you haven't heard...
Millennium staff, parents and family members can send "SMENCIL-GRAMS" (to be delivered on Valentine’s Day, 2/14/13)to students in their classrooms. Students can also send them to friends and teachers at Millennium! A "smencil-gram" is a packaged gourmet scented smalentine smencil with a to/from card attached. Each smencil-gram will cost $2. You must submit a cash payment (we will not accept checks) with the order form no later than February 8th. Order forms have been sent home, but please let your child’s teacher know if you need one. There is an order limit of six. We have a sizable number of Smencils, but they will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so get your orders in early. We may sell out. The last day to submit an order is Friday, Feb 8th if we have not sold out before then.
TOMORROW: Thursday is one of Millennium's Spirit Days - "Crazy Hair/Hat Day" So don't forget to come to school with a crazy hair-do or hat.
For those who have students on "student council" - this is just a quick reminder that TOMORROW (Thursday) morning there is a student council meeting scheduled.
This Friday, February 8th is Popcorn Day! Bags of popcorn will be sold during the students' lunch recesses for $0.25 per bag (with a limit of 2 bags per student). We could use a couple of volunteers. So, if you are available to help with this activity, please let us know. Thanks!
After school lets out this Friday (the 8th), our Book Fair Set-Up will begin. The Spring Book fair will be open next week, Monday through Thursday. Just a reminder that we do close down on Thursday afternoon after school is out, so we will not be open on Friday. We hope to see you there! If you can't make it into the book fair next week, you can still visit us online at: http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/millenniumelementary
Thank you to all the volunteers that helped work on "smencil-grams" Friday night! We couldn't have done it without you!
